Many players asked Ray if they were in heaven. Ray responded a few times by saying that it was Iowa. Towards the end of the film, he stated, "Maybe this is heaven?" Heaven was described as "A place where dreams come true."

While he was a good fielder, Shoeless Joe was better known for his hitting. His 1911 record for number of hits by a rookie (233) lasted for 90 years, until finally broken in 2001 by Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners. Joe's lifetime batting average of .356 ranks third all-time.

Incidentally, there are relatively few triples hit to left field, compared to right field. It would have been more realistic to say that Joe's glvoe was "where doubles went to die", while triples would more appropriately "die" in a right fielder's glove.

In 'Harvey' Jimmy Stewart's companion is an imaginary rabbit. Ray was self-conscious about hearing voices and didn't want to encourage this sort of fantasy in his daughter.

Composed by Dickey Betts and Les Dudek, the song is from the Allman's 1973 album "Brothers and Sisters". Break out the vinyl, folks, it's worth a listen. Whoever selected the music for this film must have had a 'brother' fixation. When Ray and Terry travel from Boston to Minnesota, we get an earful of the Doobie Brothers' "China Grove".

Just a brief five minute drive beyond the city limits of the small farming community of Dyersville, Iowa (in northeast Iowa), more than 800,000 visitors have made the pilgrimage since its opening in 1990. If you haven't made the trek yet, I highly recommend it.

"Go the distance" was another statement spoken by the voice that took Ray to Minnesota, only to find out that Doc Graham had died in 1972. However, while going out for a walk, he was magically brought back in time and got to speak with him. Burt Lancaster played Doc Graham.

The crowd at the meeting starts out backing the censorship proposal, but after an impassioned speech by Annie the crowd comes around to the free speech point of view. The energetic debate reminds Annie of her activist days in the '60's.

John McGraw managed the New York Giants from 1902-1932. He would have been Moonlight's manager in 1905 (when Graham REALLY played) or in 1921 (when the movie SAYS he played). I don't know if McGraw really had 'bony' fingers, but that's how Doc Graham describes them.

A child of the 60's, Ray drives the flower-power VW bus on his cross-country trek.

One of the reasons Ray stated that he went there was because it was as far from his father as he could possibly be. He stated jokingly that his major was "The 60's."

Ray had a dream about going to a game at Fenway Park with Terrence Mann. When Annie says 'is that the one with the big green wall?', she realizes that they both had the same dream, and she then supports Ray in his quest to go find Mann, who by that time has been a recluse for many years.

Mark (looking at Terry) says to Ray, "Who's this, Elvis?" then introduces himself as the Easter Bunny. Mel Ott is one of the players Archie recognizes on the field. In the book version, Terry Mann's character is J. D. Salinger, the reclusive author of "Catcher in the Rye". The movie producers took Salinger's name out of the script over fear of legal action.

Terrance Mann was interviewing the townspeople about Doc Graham to find out why they had traveled out there to meet him. He was told in a bar that Alicia always wore blue. When Doc passed away and had his office cleaned out, they found several blue hats that he had never gotten around to giving her.

When they get there they find out he is dead. However, when Ray takes a nighttime walk, he finds he has gone back in time and he runs into Moonlight.

The previous batter tries to move a runner from second to third with a sacrifice bunt. Rather than taking the sure out at first, the pitcher tries to get the lead man at third, but the runner is called "safe". This brings Archie to the plate with runners on the corners.
